Shimizu has engaged a contract from the Road Transport Authorities (RTA) of Dubai to construct the Interchange No.8, a highway interchange bridge and surrounding roads of the Sheikh Zayed Road. The contract value is about US$150 million and original duration is from November 2007 to August 2009. I was out-stationed there for 3 months and involved in the claim analysis work. For this project, insufficient and erroneous consultant’s design made the construction difficult. In the end, the contractor had to resolve all the discrepancies through shop drawing submission and approval process.
